| I screwed up big time. Now the wife don't trust me none. Really goes off if I slip even a little. Seems totally unreasonable. What gives? |

Rebuilding trust seems to take a long time - a lot longer than what we'd like it to. The severity of breakdown will determine the length of time to rebuild. The deeper the hurt, the longer it takes.
I've read that it takes about 5 positive events to equal 1 negative event, under normal conditions. If you have hurt someone deeply (and they determine how deep the injury) the ratio of positive to negative goes WAY up - say 50 to 1 or even 100 to 1.
So if you've really screwed up big time, you will need a least 50 positive "deposits" to equal one messup.
So be patient, and don't allow yourself the luxury of messing up, as it will cost you. |
